General Description: As a member of the “League of European Research Universities”, UZH belongs to Europe’s most prestigious research institutions (world rank 56, European rank 14). Together with ETH Zurich (world rank 23, European rank 4), UZH has established Life Science Zurich as a high-performance network in the area of biomedicine.
Expertise: i) Institute of Clinical Chemistry: structural and functional characterization of lipoproteins, lipoprotein/cell interactions including receptor binding and endocytosis, sphingo- and phospholipids; clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine including technical and clinical validation of biomarkers; ii) Department of Cardiology: clinical and basic research on coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, endothelial function, vascular aging, cardiometabolic diseases. Principle investigator and study center of SPUM-ACS study. iii) Institute of Molecular Life Sciences: molecular cell biology in mammalian cells. Data-driven modeling of multivariate measurements obtained with quantitative single-cell imaging of large populations of cells to uncover mechanisms by which cells couple and coordinate their activities.
Facilities: i) ultracentrifuges and chromatography for lipoprotein isolation, fully equipped cell culture lab, mass spectrometers (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS); (high-throughput) clinical chemistry and immuno assay analysers, ii) automated wide-field cell WoRxt microscopes, image-based RNA interference, automated image analysis and data content management on the ETH high-performance computing cluster (Brutus), iii) Functional Genomics Center Zurich: support in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics, iv) Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis : state of the art light and electron microscopes iv) Center for Clinical Research: Clinical Trials Center to perform research projects on probands and patients.
